The Sustainable Office

It's becoming increasingly important for companies to operate in more environmentally friendly ways. Here are a few tips on how you can create a working environment that is healthier for your staff and the planet.

Take Your Lunch To Work

  • Take a reusable, portable lunch box to work to avoid using cling film or purchasing food in unnecessary packaging.

  • Avoid plastic cutlery and take a knife and fork with you.

  • If you have an old ice cream or takeaway box, use that!

  • According to The Guardian, in the UK alone, around 4 Billion takeaway sandwiches are purchased every year - that's 4 billion plastic packages thrown away from just sandwiches!

  • Pre-making your lunch will encourage you to stop buying fast food and it will reduce the amount of waste you create.

  • Making your own lunch also saves money.

Walk To Work

  • If you can, walk to work and get yourself some pre or post-work exercise. It will encourage those endorphins you need for the day!

  • If it's too far to walk, maybe cycle, skate, or get public transport instead of driving.

Use A Reusable Water Bottle

  • Plastic bottles make up a gigantic proportion of plastic pollution. Americans throw away an estimated 35 billion plastic water bottles every year!

  • By carrying a reusable water bottle, you will drastically reduce the number of bottles you purchase.

  • Using your own bottle will save your money and the environment.

  • When purchasing a reusable bottle, try and get yourself a metal one instead of plastic. This is better for your health as they do not contain BPA!

  • You can choose from a wide range of bottles on our Eco-Friendly Product Page.

Think Before You Print

  • Think before you print!

  • Email instead of printing.

  • Always recycle used paper.

  • Put a 'Think Before You Print' notice at the end of your email signature!

Zero Waste Shop

Encourage A Zero-Waste Office

  • No recycling bin at your place of work?

  • Noticing a lot of waste coming from your office?

  • Ask your business or team to recycle more and waste less, you could try running plastic free days or encourage colleagues to bring in their own food or to print less.

Take Away Coffee

Avoid Single-Use Coffee Cups

  • Always carry a reusable cup with you to save buying those single-use cups!

  • Some cafes do initiatives such as; discounts or free coffee if you bring your own cup.

  • You could even use an old jam jar if you want to reuse waste. (However, make sure that it's suitable for boiling water or wear gloves to prevent burning yourself!)

  • You can purchase some pretty awesome reusable coffee cups. (Check out our Eco-Friendly Product Page for more details)

  • Only 1 in 4 coffee cups get recycled. The rest end up in landfills, on the streets, in rivers or the ocean. Single-use cups should be banned worldwide immediately!
